Imabari Shipbuilding is to construct a new dry dock capable of accommodating the new generation of mega container ships.

The new dry dock, which has already secured building approval, will be approximately 100,000㎡ and  is located next to Imabari's Marugame Headquarters in Marugame City. Work begins next month and is exptected to complete in 2016.

The announcement comes on the same day that the ship builder confirmed that it had secured a newbuilding order from Marubeni for 11 20,000 TEU Ultra-Large Container Carriers, the largest type container carriers in the world. The state of the art newbuilding vessels have been developed for overseas ship-owners, fully adopting eco-friendly features and the most advanced energy efficiency technology.

The first vessel is scheduled to be completed in early 2018.
