Golar LNG CEO steps down

Golar LNG’s chief executive officer has quit after a six-year stint.

Doug Arnell took the role of CEO back in 2009 but now plans to move back to his home in Canada, returning to a job he quit to spend more time with his family. Arnell will be replaced by 35-year-old Gary Smith, who led Golar from 2006 to 2009 before returning in a consultancy capacity in May 2014.

Chairman of Golar LNG, Sir Frank Chapman said: “We have succeeded in these moves to secure an experienced leader and operational manager, known to Golar over many years, to lead our company through the next phase.”

“At the same time, the outgoing CEO has committed his on-going support to our company’s critical growth initiatives, thus increasing management capacity and securing a smooth transition at a time of high activity.”

Arnell will be replaced by 35-year-old Gary Smith, who led Golar from 2006 to 2009 before returning in a consultancy capacity in May 2014.
