Classification expert joins Thome Group

Thome Group has appointed Olav Magnus Nortun as its new chief executive officer.

A Norwegian national, Nortun has extensive experience in the maritime industry, particularly in the areas of strategic development and governance of production, knowledge management and systems related to ship classification.

Nortun’s most recent experience was as executive vice president of DNV GL’s classification division. He was also regional manager, Maritime Korea and East Russia in addition to board chairman of DNV (China).

Thome has announced that Olav Eek Thorstensen will step down as group CEO but continue as Thome Group Executive.

Commenting on the new appointment, President of Thome Group, Claes Eek Thorstensen said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Olav Norton as Group CEO for the Thome Group. Olav brings with him a broad international maritime experience which combined with the new perspectives and ideas he may have will, I believe, benefit the group significantly in the months ahead.”

Nortun will take over the position on the 1st of April 2015.
