The board of Odfjell has announced that president and chief executive Jan A. Hammer has left the company.

The company said that the swift move happened “due to different views on the strategic direction” of Odfjell.

Tore Jakobsen has been appointed interim president and CEO. Jakobsen has been a member of Odfjell’s Management Group since 2005 where he served as senior vice president of corporate investments. He was previously president and CEO of Westfal-Larsen and holds a Masters in economics and business administration.

In a statement the company said, “The board would like to thank Jan A. Hammer for his long service and dedication to the company.”

Speaking to TradeWinds, chairman of the company, Laurence Odfjell said: “This is sad on a personal note having worked with Jan for many years, but there is no drama.”
