NYK Group launches new anti-mould oil additive for low sulphur fuel

Nippon Yuka Kogya (NYK Group) has developed a lubricity-improving, anti-mould oil additive for low-sulphur gas oil.

The company has launched an additive, Yunic750LS-F which can be added to the low sulphur gas oil that will soon be required in emission control areas (ECAs).

According to the company, the additive lessens fuel oil equipment problems that can be caused by gas oil having a lack of lubricity or containing mould, therefore improving safety of fuel oil equipment and contributing to better operations.

Currently low sulphur fuel is only necessary to use in ECAs, so NYK Group states that there is the possibility that it could be stored in the gas oil tank over an extended time. The anti-mould feature of this additive prevents mould caused by condensed water that can mix with the gas oil.

Up until now, separate additives were needed for lubricity improvement and anti-mould measures, but NYK Group’s new additive has both properties in one product.
