Hyundai Heavy Industries has officially named the world’s largest containershp.

The first of five 19,000 teu vessels ordered by China Shipping Container Lines back in May 2013 has been called the CSCL Globe. Chairman of the China Shipping Group, Xu Li Rong’s wife He Li Un named the containership, which measures 400m in length 58.6m in width and 30.5m in depth and is as large as four football fields.

The CSCL Globe is set to be deployed on the Asia-Europe trade loop after being handed over to the owner.

CSCL Globe features a 77,200 bhp electronic controlled main engine which HHI says enhances fuel efficiency. The containership is expected to burn 20 percent less fuel per teu in comparison with 10,000 teu containerships.
