Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has announced the acquisition of a stake in Fugro.

The dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services provider has taken a 14.8% share of Fugro, a company which supplies integrated survey and geotechnical related services.

According to Boskalis, Fugro is company that fits very well with its own activities. The two companies hope to explore options for cooperation together, but Boskalis has stated that it has “no intention to make an offer for Fugro.”

Peter Berdowski, CEO Boskalis said: "Fugro is an attractive company with activities that fit together well with those of Boskalis. For many years, we have worked together on numerous projects throughout the world and there are strong similarities in the working environment and culture. We would like to speak and explore with the management of Fugro possibilities for cooperation. We support the recently realigned strategy of Fugro, and do not intend to make an offer.”

In a statement, Boskalis said its strategy is to focus on offshore and maritime infrastructure, making use of the combination of high end know-how and assets.
